I was reading about your water heater, and how some other things have been breaking down without the means to fix them. We have all been in that position. I joined a group called freecycle.com and it is a group of postings that are offers, wants, and then taken and received of items that people are no longer using. I have given many things on this, including appliances (that were all in great condition), instead of just storing them in the garage.
