This morning I woke up and decided that because I have a clear day in my schedule today, I’m going to spend the majority of the day cleaning house. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? ![]()
After putting up the Christmas tree yesterday and getting out the assorted Christmas decorations from storage, I felt overwhelmed by “stuff.”
For some reason as I woke up this morning, I remembered something funny my mother-in-law used to do and it inspired me to spend the entire day cleaning house today.
My mother-in-law always deep-cleaned her house — and did the family’s laundry – on Monday each week. Why? Because she didn’t like Mondays at all anyway, so she felt that by adding cleaning to the “bad” day, it just kept all the icky stuff happening on one day instead of spreading it out over the entire week. ![]()
So even though today isn’t Monday, in loving memory of my mother-in-law, Jean Hough (who was inspiring to me in so many ways during her life), I’m going to do all the “icky” stuff today and get it over with for the week. Thanks, Mom!
Fun, fun, fun. ![]()
(Oh, and before anyone suggests it — which they always do when the topic of housekeeping comes up – yes, I’ve tried FlyLady’s mailing list, her website and read her book … and no, I did’t find it particularly helpful to me. But your mileage may vary.) ![]()

Oooh Debi,
That’s a good idea. I’m with your mom-in-law – Mondays are the pits. Why waste your weekend doing it? I may have to steal this idea.
Hope you had a nice Christmas.

Sounds like a great idea but I don’t think I would ever get out of bed that day
